About us

Contemporary Canadian Indigenous artists have curated art on the Indigenous Arts Network (IAN) to present the variety of disciplines and best quality of art available.

IAN is an interactive atlas of where to find Indigenous artists across Canada which offer a rare opportunity to hear about the artist’s creative process.

The art presented on IAN is represented by the Nine Circles designed by the Association for Native Development in the Performing and Visual Arts – ANDPVA, namely; theatre, writing, film and video, music, new media, dance, craft and design, visual art and communication.

The interactive atlas is broken into seven regions across Canada; Regions British Columbia, Atlantic, Nunavut, Ontario, Prairies, Quebec, Territories (NWT & Yukon).

Interviews were conducted with Indigenous artists across Canada and presented in video clips, audio recordings and slideshow images and photographs. Each region will also feature informative content about the diverse forms of art produced by Indigenous artists.

IAN becomes a unique means to learn about and celebrate a whole host of Indigenous artistic talent that can be found throughout Canada. IAN is designed to be living-site that can be added to and updated to ensure access to authentic Indigenous artists and art forms.

In addition, the interactive feature of IAN makes this an ideal site for event organizers, students, educators and government policy makers to access contemporary Indigenous artists in planning community events, research and inclusion in consultation processes.
