Brenda MacIntyre
Brenda MacIntyre, also known as Medicine Song Woman, is a remarkable singer, hand drummer, speaker, healer and artist sometimes called “hand drum healer”.

I went back to York University, and that’s where I discovered my roots, as far as learning that I was Aboriginal, and what that means. From there, as soon as I picked up the hand drum, then I learned the hand drum songs that are sung in the community.
Now it’s come back again. I have to explore a way to completely be true to myself, to be who I am as an artist, to be who I am as a person, as a Native person, as a woman, as a mother, all of that.
The inspiration is someone needs healing, or I’m praying for myself. That’s the only inspiration I need, it’s a prayer, so I don’t have to do any kind of work. I’m just being, and then the song comes through me.
