Kenojuak Ashevak

Kenojuak Ashevak is a print maker of renowned in Canada. Her work work spans decades of Inuit art-making and has been on the leading edge of contemporary Canadian Art for many years.

Interview (transcript)

After the drawing is etched on the stone the color is applied and the image is transferred to the paper. I don’t remember the exacty year I started drawing but I remember I was a young girl when I started. I remember I would draw and re-draw things and as I grew, I became better at it. Kenojuak Ashevak

I will give advice to those who ask, but to those who wish to follow, they must ask. I like the drawings, all of them I have no favorites, they are all my favorites.

Being an artist has helped me a lot in raising my own children. It has helped support us. I am happy to see our young artists doing their own art and trying to support their families too this makes me proud.
