Ontario is represented by several Indigenous groups that spread across Canada’s largest province, namely: Ojibway, Cree Delware, Potawatomi, Oneida, Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga and Tuscarora(1). Métis and diverse Indigenous nations from across Canada will also be represented in Ontario, often due to the large variety of college and university options to study.
Oneida citizen Tehaliwaskenhas Bob Kennedy created in the Turtle Island Native Network known online as www.turtleisland.org and was one of the first award winning news and information networks in Aboriginal Cyber-Journalism. With such vast amounts of information available on the world-wide web, the Turtle Island Native Network seeks to provide a well-managed intersection on the Information Highway. A survivor of the child-welfare sixties-scoop and removed from his family at the age of three Bob and his sister were raised in white foster care and overcame tremendous childhood hardships. Despite being raised away from his Oneida family, his connection to the turtle clan has been a natural motivator to move ahead in life one day at a time with a strong belief that one person can make a difference. Currently residing on Coast Salish territory on Vancouver Island, Tehaliwaskenhas Bob Kennedy has a strong career foundation as a former reporter, broadcaster, news director of CHUM Radio and a newscaster for CBC National Radio. In addition, Bob has experience working with a couple of Provincial Cabinet Ministers as a senior communications advisor as well as communication and information management work for BC based Aboriginal organizations. Tehaliwaskenhas Bob Kennedy career path has prepared him to be a successful online resource with the www.turtleisland.org(8).
